Projects

 Uli Datler Trio

  • Uli Datler……………..piano
  • Alexander Lackner……bass
  • Christian Grobauer….…drums

The intensive interaction within the just three members of a piano-trio is enabled by the transparency and the fragility of such a small ensemble. One hand the balance in-between composition and arrangement and on the other hand the resulting improvisations are explored, contested and invented again by the acting musicians. The variety of sounds and forms constitute the space for that kind of communication, which enables each of the three personalities to get a word musically and create a common whole. The subjects of that communication are mainly my own compositions.

Uli Datler Quintet

  • Thomas Faulhammer………sax
  • Uli Datler………piano, rhodes
  • Edi Köhldorfer…..…….guitar
  • Martin Heinzle……………bass
  • Bernd Rommel………..drums

This band started as a quartet and devoted itself mainly to the rich jazz-repertoire. I tried to arrange compositions of musicians, I cherish and admire, for this very band and its amazing members. Meanwhile the band has increased and become a quintet. Thomas Faulhammer joined the quartet´s members Edi Köhldorfer, Martin Heinzle, Bernd Rommel and me. With this quintet I made one of my dreams come true arranging songs by STING for this band. Our CD “STINGfluenced” was released in january 2019.

Martina Petz & Band

  • Martina Petz…………..…….vocals
  • Wolfgang Köck……………..guitar
  • Uli Datler…………..piano, rhodes
  • Martin Treml……..……………bass
  • Bernd Rommel………………drums

Martina Petz is a notable jazz-vocalist who really knows how to scat, and an outstanding composer and lyricist as well. She realizes both sides of her musicianship in this group. The German-language songs of Martina Petz are a mixture of chanson, jazz and groove. One hand she deals with every day life in a way of humorous easiness, on the other hand she touches sensitive areas of the soul with metaphorical lyrics, that remind me of collages.

With Stella Jones:

Stella Jones & Band

  • Stella Jones……………vocals
  • Edi Köhldorfer……………..guitar
  • Uli Datler…………….piano, key
  • Rue Kostron……………….e-bass
  • Tommy Böröcz…………..drums

For many years I enjoy working with Stella Jones as a great singer and a friend of mine.  She recorded and produced to CDs with her own originals. Those songs and funk&soul covers she performs with this band.

Stella Jones & the Jazzliners

………represent the vocalist´s association with jazz. As Stella´s father was a well-known bebop trumpet player this is a kind of “going back to the roots” somehow.

American Christmas Gospel

For many years I love to accompany this gospel group, which was founded and is lead by Stella Jones, on the piano.

With Carole Alston:

It was a great pleasure for me, to meet Carole Alston, who studied acting, dancing and singing in the USA. We met at the debut performance of her one-woman-play “Tribute to a Blue Lady”. In this play she was acting the life of Billie Holiday from her youth on until her tragic death. In this production I was at the piano and musical director. Carole was acting marvelous and each performance was impressive and touching for the musicians as well. Since then I fortunately work together with Carole Alston again and again in various projects. I especially enjoy comping Carole in her Gospel concerts together with Uli Langthaler at the bass and Andy Weiss at the drums. Carole is deeply-rooted in this kind of music. Her father had a Gospel church in Washington D.C. where Carole was growing up and singing from childhood on. In may 2013 we were invited to perform a concert in the Wr. Musikverein together with the Wr. Singverein (choir).

Colours & People

In 2014 the drummer, composer and songwriter Tommy Böröcz started a reunion of his band “Colours & people”. I appreciate Tommy as a drummer as well as a composer and  bandleader and have a lot of fun trying to make his music sound well on the keyboards.

Chief Jackson

  • Horst Gössl………………….…vocals, guitar
  • Volker Kargerer………………………guitar
  • Uli Datler…………………………rhodes, hammond
  • Franz Schaden…………………………bass
  • Markus Schaden……………………….drums

In a very independent way this group arranges and performs songs of various genres such as Rockabilly, Rock´n´Roll, Blues and Soul.
